Unexpected 3% fee on a $1M house deal I cancelled

I messed up big time. I tried to buy a million-dollar house without thinking it through. The rate was 9% and I put down 100 grand. But then I realized I couldn’t afford it.

I backed out but lost $9,400. Now the real estate company wants another $30,000 (3% of the house price). They say it’s for their work. I didn’t know about this fee until after I signed everything.

I’ve been begging them to drop it. The realtor said they’d let me know tomorrow. I’m super stressed and looking for lawyers just in case.

I wish I had someone to help me with this stuff. I’ve always made big choices alone. Now I’m paying for being careless.

Has anyone been in a similar spot? What did you do? I hope sharing this stops others from making the same mistake.

Lesson learned: Don’t rush into buying a house without help.

I’ve been in a similar situation, and it’s definitely stressful. First, take a deep breath. These companies often inflate fees, hoping you’ll just pay. Review your contract carefully - if the fee wasn’t clearly disclosed, you might have grounds to dispute it. Consider consulting a real estate attorney; they can often find loopholes or negotiate better terms. In my case, we managed to reduce the fee significantly by pushing back and threatening legal action. Don’t be afraid to stand your ground, but also be prepared for some compromise. Remember, it’s a business transaction for them, so approach it calmly and professionally. Good luck, and I hope you can resolve this without too much financial strain.

hey, i feel ya, these fees cud be so annoying. i once got tripped up by extra charges on a car buy. definitely try talking with 'em again and maybe a lawyer might help find a way out. good luck man.

Whoa, that’s rough! Have you thought about getting a second opinion from another realtor? They might know if this fee is legit or not. Also, maybe check out some online forums for homebuyers? Lots of folks there with similar stories. Keep us posted on what happens!
