Skyrocketing property taxes: A homeowner's frustration

Hey everyone,

I just got an updated escrow statement from my bank, and I’m totally shocked. My property taxes shot up by $2400 this year! That’s a huge jump.

I’m really feeling the squeeze here in Philly. The city’s tax policies are making it harder and harder for homeowners like me to keep up. It’s getting ridiculous.

Anyone else dealing with crazy tax increases? How are you handling it? I’m starting to wonder if owning a home here is even worth it anymore.

Any advice or commiseration would be appreciated. Thanks for listening to my rant!

ugh, i feel ur pain! property taxes in philly r outta control. mine went up $1800 last year n im struggling. considered appealing but its such a hassle. maybe we need to band together n demand changes from city hall? this cant go on forever

I’ve been through this myself, and it’s certainly a challenge. Have you looked into the Homestead Exemption program? It can provide some relief if you haven’t applied already. Another option is to request a reassessment if you believe your property’s value has been overestimated. It’s a bit of paperwork, but it could save you a significant amount. Additionally, consider reaching out to your local councilperson. They might be able to provide insights on upcoming policy changes or resources for homeowners. Remember, you’re not alone in this struggle. Many of us are facing similar issues with rising costs in the city.
