Will the mandatory 6% fee on home purchases, as paid in realtor commissions, be abolished?

Overview:

Real estate commissions are often compared to expensive add-ons found in car dealerships or tax software. Currently, some states make the use of these services compulsory, even though they can inflate home prices significantly—sometimes by tens of thousands of dollars in high-cost regions. It would be beneficial if consumers could choose these services without federal mandates while having their fees capped to prevent undue financial burdens.

I doubt it will disappear completely, but perhaps we’ll see some easing. I’m curious – how might greater consumer choice and market forces reshape this fee in the future? Anyone else think tweaks could balance fairness for buyers and the industry’s needs?
